The Daily Routine That Keeps Me Grounded in PG Life
By Pranav Sharma
My days were wild when I initially moved into my PG. Most of the time, I would wake up minutes before I had to go, skip breakfast, and feel mentally hazy. Although it requires discipline, living away from home offers a new type of independence. I've discovered over time that even small routines, particularly in the morning and evening, may have a significant impact on my level of productivity, calmness, and attention.
Here are a few minor routines that help me maintain equilibrium in a shared living environment; they may also help you establish your rhythm.
Morning Routine: Getting the Day Started with a Goal
⏰ 7:30 A.M: Awaken, but refrain from scrolling
As soon as I opened my eyes, I used to check my phone. I now give myself ten minutes to remain motionless. No screens. simply grounding myself, breathing, and stretching.
🪥 7:40 AM: Rapid Hydration + Hygiene
I had a large glass of water, brushed my teeth, and splashed some cold water on my face. These small gestures tell my body that it's time to start.
📓7:50 AM: 5-Minute Journal
I write down three things:
- Things for which I am thankful
- I have one goal in mind.
- One constructive affirmation
It's incredible how this 5-minute routine changes my perspective.
☕ 8:00 AM: Light Breakfast + Activities Verify
I keep it simple—bananas, boiled eggs, or oats—because PG kitchens can be a battleground in the morning. While drinking tea or coffee, I take a quick look at my schedule for the day. Just getting my mind ready, no overanalyzing.
Evening Routine: Relaxing in a Common Area
📴9:00 PM: Screen Cut-off (Mostly 😅)
Around nine, I make an effort to put my phone and laptop away. Even though it's not always flawless, it improves my quality of sleep. I substitute short podcasts, walks, or light conversation for screen time.
9:30 PM: Day Review and Reset
I mentally go back in time at this point. What worked well? What didn't work? Was my time wasted? Have I learned anything? I'm just observing, not trying to judge myself.
10:00 PM: Getting Ready for Tomorrow
I tidy my desk, lay out my clothes for tomorrow, and pack my bag. Although it may seem simple, this 5-minute routine helps me avoid morning panic for 20 minutes.
📖 10:15 PM: One Page Rule
I only read one page of a book, even when I'm exhausted. The objective is simply to remain consistent, but it frequently develops into more.
🏡 Managing PG Life through Routine
Unpredictable schedules, noise, and distractions are all part of shared spaces. Routines, however, provide me with a tiny bit of security. I now know how to:
- For some alone time, get up earlier than most of your roommates.
- When people are noisy, put on headphones and listen to relaxing music.
- When feasible, arrange for shared kitchen or bathroom use.
- Instead of isolating yourself, use your alone time to recharge.
My daily appearance is shaped by these small choices.
Concluding Remarks
It's not necessary for routines to be strict or flawless. I have repeatedly failed at mine. However, progress, not perfection, is the aim. Even when everything else seems chaotic, I feel in control thanks to my routines.
Try incorporating just one habit into your morning or evening if you live in a PG or simply feel like your days are blending together. It could be the anchor you require.
