Books & Podcasts That Kept Me Sane During PG Life

๐Ÿ“š My Favorite Books & Podcasts That Shaped My PG Life

By Pranav Sharma

A PG is a chaotic place to live. But in the midst of the shared restrooms, loud hallways, and erratic schedules, I discovered a secret method to remain inspired, sane, and intelligent: books and podcasts.

They are now more than just amusement. They are constantly accessible and enlightening, much like silent mentors. These books and podcasts have aided in my mental, emotional, and even creative development throughout my PG career.

๐Ÿ“– Favorite Books:

1. James Clear's Atomic Habits

I literally developed my current morning and evening routines thanks to this book. It describes how little behaviors add up over time and offers helpful advice on how to modify behavior, even if you live in a tiny, noisy room with no personal space.

๐Ÿง  Lesson Learned: Pay attention to systems rather than just objectives.

2. Cal Newport's Deep Work

Distractions abound in PGs. I learned from this book how to safeguard my concentration, stay away from pointless diversions (like endless scrolling), and clear my mind so that I can work on important tasks.

๐Ÿง  Lesson Learned: Use your focus as a superpower.

3. Hรฉctor Garcรญa and Francesc Miralles' Ikigai

Even on lazy PG days when I doubted everything, this Japanese philosophy book helped me think about what makes my life meaningful. It is contemplative, calming, and thought-provoking.

๐Ÿง  Lesson Learned: Take your time and savor the little things in life.

4. Austin Kleon's Show Your Work

Even though my work isn't flawless, this book encouraged me to share more as I develop a public blog portfolio. It all comes down to being transparent, sharing your journey with others, and recording your process.

๐Ÿง  Lesson Learned: Sharing doesn't require you to be a genius.

๐ŸŽง Favorite Podcasts:

1. The Ranveer Show (TRS)

Features interviews that are like wisdom capsules and cover a variety of topics, including fitness, mental health, motivation, and life. I frequently listen while taking walks in the evening or cleaning my room.

๐ŸŽ™️ Why I Adore It: There is always something new to learn, and the guests come from a variety of backgrounds.

2. Think Fast, Talk Smart by Stanford GSB

This podcast improved my ability to communicate and organize my ideas, which is helpful when you need to confidently express yourself in front of others.

๐ŸŽ™️ Why I Adore It: It is brief, practical, and actionable.

3. On Purpose with Jay Shetty

Strong life lessons combined with a soothing voice make this the ideal podcast to listen to at night in a busy PG. Jay talks about motivation, relationships, self-worth, and emotional development.

๐ŸŽ™️ Why I Love It: He simplifies complex emotions and teaches how to handle life better.

๐Ÿ›️ How I Include Them in My PG Routine

  • ๐ŸŽง Podcasts while brushing or making breakfast
  • ๐Ÿ“– One-page rule before bed → Books
  • ๐ŸŽง Audiobooks or interviews during travel or while waiting
  • ๐Ÿ“˜ When I'm at a loss for ideas, I flip through Show Your Work

๐Ÿ”š Conclusion

Long hours and costly classes are not necessary for growth; all you need is a good book or a good podcast. Throughout PG life, these little pearls of wisdom have given me more clarity, self-assurance, and composure.

Start with just one book or one episode if you're feeling overburdened. Big changes could result from that little change.

Navigating the PG Apartment: Essential Do’s and Don’ts

Living in a Paying Guest (PG) apartment can be an exciting experience, offering a blend of independence and community. However, maintaining harmony in a PG requires some consideration and etiquette. Even if you are a seasoned PG resident or new, here is a guide to help you navigate the do's and don'ts of living in a PG apartment. Do’s Communicate Openly Good communication is the key to a smooth living experience. If staying with a roommate, always communicate about cleanliness, guests, and shared expenses early on. These should be the ground rules that you both set up at the start. Do Respect Quiet Hours You start living outside your home for studies, so respect the quiet hours, i.e, studying times for others also. Always remember if you don’t want to be disturbed while concentrating, there will be others also who want the peace.
